For managers and teachers-and anyone else who talks and expects someone to listen- Confessions of a Public Speaker provides an insider's perspective on how to effectively present ideas to anyone. This year I made a goal to read six new books and to share my experience with everyone via book reviews. This book comes out of the tremendous experience which Scott has gained over the years from giving hundreds of speeches and presentations. Confessions of a Public Speaker is a book on public speaking by Scott Berkun. Jan Schultink recommended this book and I enjoyed it. If you ever have to stand up and speak in front of an audience, the Confessions of a Public Speaker is a must-read. Standing in front of an audience of any size, for any reason, has been my kryptonite. Stepping out of our comfort zones and into the spotlight at events (and encouraging others to do likewise) can help address the perception that the tech community is solely populated by young white guys. The book has enough useful substance, and a healthy dollop of humor, to get my vote. I've read the book a few weeks ago (and found it a fantastic resource), but never got time to write a review. This is the first review of the year and I am excited. Most people listening to presentations around the world right now are hoping their speakers will end soon. A confession: I've never liked, or been good at, public speaking.
